Christmas Fayre 2011
On a cold and crisp but sunny day a large crowd turned up for
the Mill of Benholm's Christmas Fayre in the Inverbervie Church
Centre on Saturday. Supporters of the event, who seemed to come
from near and far created a happy atmosphere and, once inside,
there was plenty of opportunity for them to empty their pockets.
Stalls featuring festive, craft, photography and wood turning
caught the eye while taking a chance on a whisky trail, raffle and
bottle stall added to the fun. Santa was in his grotto and a
display of toy trains, always fascinating to young and old, was an
added attraction. The tea room was busy throughout the day and
stovies were a popular addition to the menu.
A charitable company, the Mill of Benholm Project manages the
Mill in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council, but as the Chair,
Ian Hunter, indicated at the group's AGM in September, despite the
great progress which has been made recently the Mill barely
sustains itself and so needs all the support it can muster.
While the Project will certainly have been hoping that
Saturday's fayre was a financial success it was also an
occasion to make more people aware that a valuable community asset
and resource is there right on their very own doorstep.
The public are asked to take notice that the Mill of Benholm
tearoom will be closed from Friday, December 16, re-opening on
Monday, January 9. The longer than usual closure is to enable the
interior to be redecorated. Volunteers are welcome to come along
and help with the cleaning, painting and refurbishment from Monday,
January 2 to Friday, January 6.
